The original title of the book written by Sara Gruen is “Water for Elephants” however there is some debate that it might get changed to “Circus” for the film. Certainly the title “Circus” is not very original; I personally feel that leaving the title as it is in the book is the right way forward. Time will tell and nearer the time of filming we should know something definite about what has been decided.

I’m taking this blog very seriously and unless I find confirmation of something, I am not posting. I want this to be for those who really love the story and hopefully the film, so there will be no “hot news” no speculation and it will be dedicated 100% to Water for Elephants. However there will be spoilers so if you have not read the book and don’t want spoilers, then please don’t read this blog.

Jacob Leaves Home In Chickamauga Video & Pics

WRCBTV talks about the filming today and what would be going on over the weekend.

As anticipated security was tight and so far very few pictures have come to light, these two pictures are of Jacob leaving what I would presume be his parent’s home, Jacob finds out he is destitute and all that his parents owned goes to the bank.

And today wrcbtv said;
At five o'clock in the morning, West Cove Road in Chickamauga was jam packed with cars, and fans waiting for Robert Pattinson to make his movie debut in Chickamauga.

Then Pattinson made his debut on the set. He walked around the side of what is considered his home in the film Water for Elephants.

Robert Pattinson shot a scene inside the home on West Cove Road and walked out the front door carrying a hat, and a suitcase.

The Benzini Brothers arrive in Chattanooga

Good morning Water for Elephant fans, the day has started early for the cast and crew of Water for Elephants. The film crew started their day with breakfast around 6:30 a.m. and began shooting soon after 7:00 a.m. The Benzini Brothers train has been created, the crew have everything set up,

Rob Pattinson has been spotted or so they think? Is that Rob or not? And many fans are up with the lark ready to see their favourite actors. Channel 3 Eyewitness News was the only television crew on scene as Pattinson walked around in a hoodie, or so they say.

Robert is said to be filming the opening and closing scenes and he may only be there for one day, although there is a possibility his stay may continue into Saturday. The train museum is said to be closed until Tuesday, but I am sure that this won’t distract the fans from trying to get a peek at the filming.

West Cove Road is now blocked. Security is tight around the movie set. The fans were asked to go back to their vehicles, at about 6.30 this morning, it was just a precautionary thing, with no other incidence.

I’ll be updating as the day goes on.
Thanks to Tess O’Malley for tweetering some of her pictures, please keep sending them in.

The other great news is, we now seem to have a date for the release in theaters of Water for Elephants, which is said to be on the 15th of April, 2011.

Updates on WFE filming in Chattanooga and Chickamauga

Lots of news has been coming in about the filming in Chattanooga and Chickamauga,GA. Finally they are using a house owned by the Cross family situated in West Cove Road, Kensington, south of Chickamauga, GA. See video below for more details.

There is also talk that Reese Witherspoon will also be there, it has been heard that there will be two famous actors in Chattanooga to film on Friday morning ,but I have still not had confirmation that this is true.

Today they have been filming at the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum but with no famous actors. Robert Pattinson is said to be flying to Chattanooga at this moment so the tweets saying that Robert had been seen around the area in the past day or two are incorrect.

Crew members have been setting up the scenario and numerous Lorries loaded with equipment can be seen around Chattanooga, according to news reports, roads will be blocked and security will be heavy whilst filming is being completed.

Jacob and August on WFE Set 28 July 2010

Lots of pictures have been made available  from yesterdays filming of Water for Elephants. One part is a bruised and roughed up Jacob, all of the pictures are in breaks between filming. I really love Augusts jackets they are so original and really look good on Christoph.

Pictures of Jacob Jankowski at the Morgue

As I wrote yesterday, I felt sure that we would get some pictures from the Cornell/UCLA or morgue sets. The dark suited one appears to have been taken at the morgue where Jacob has to go and identify his parents after their car accident. The light coloured suit would be from the Cornell set.

Robert Pattinson looks very serious, which he often does when preparing to film scenes, but there seem to be two bodyguards now instead of one, would that be due to the problems he had with unscrupolous paparazzi last Saturday?

Christoph Waltz talks Water for Elephants and Filming at UCLA

They are filming at UCLA today, which means in plain language UCLA = Cornell, hopefully there will be some picture from this set later on today or tomorrow. Once they complete filming there, they will be moving to Chattanooga,TN towards the weekend.

So Christoph took time off Water for Elephants to visit the Green Hornet panel at the Comic-Con this weekend.

"He spoke to Eonline about the filming of “Water for Elephants” and about the cast; his favourite is of course “Rosie”.

Waltz told us that filming is going "very well" despite the paparazzi hounding their set, which is now a daily occurrence.

Despite WFE being one of the most talked-about sets right now, he's totally enjoying working with Rob and Reese and all the baggage that comes with."

An Amazing Account of the Benzini Brothers Parade

H2OforElephants have a wonderful account from Emily Gregorio who has been working as an extra in Water for Elephants. She narrates what happened on the day of the parade, the actors, Rosie and she was also lucky enough to talk to Sara Gruen. Awesome, loved it, thanks for writing it down so we could all enjoy your experiance.

First, the Big Top Band rolled through playing their instruments. The clowns and various circus acts followed; and then, there she was, Tai the elephant (Rosie). She was wearing her usual headdress and was made-up with fake wounds as Reese Witherspoon (Marlena) rode her down the street, waving. Everyone was all-smiles as Christoph Waltz (August) walked by their side showing them off. However, in character, Robert Pattinson (Jacob) was watching closely to see if August was going to beat Rosie, as he was notorious for. The parade went on as zebras, llamas, and a lion followed down the street. “Cut!” the AD yelled, and the extras and actors all returned to their 2010-selves.

While waiting in the hot July sun, it was nearing lunchtime as they sent many extras back to the holding area. I was one of the lucky few that were chosen to stay for the close-up shot with Robert Pattinson and Christoph Waltz. This shot was awesome because I would get the chance to be inches away from Rob as he walked down the street for the parade (every Rob-lover’s dream). We were told to pantomime so the sound guys could pick up Rob and Christoph reciting their lines.

This scene was pretty intense as both the actors spat their lines with anger toward one another while trying to keep their composure for the crowd. Both Christoph and Rob did this part very well considering their strong friendship off camera. After many takes of that (which I’m not complaining about at all haha) we were finally off to lunch. I have to admit for the amount of people they had to feed, the food was really good! We had pasta, cheesy potatoes, corn, bread, salad, ice cream, brownies, and cookies.

While we had a break between takes, I had the privilege of talking with the author. She asked me when I got there and when I responded, 3:30am, she was shocked and seemed grateful that I and many others had been there for over 16 hours to bring her story to life. I then asked her how it felt having her story made into a major motion picture and she said, “I work with words, and words cannot even describe.” (something she later posted on her facebook profile). We chatted for a while after that about different things about the book and what she thought about the script (which she thought was very well written). We finished up the day with a few more shots of the same thing and were released at 8:30pm.

August and Jacob get into a Fight

Ouch that looks as if it must hurt, but don’t panic, it is only make up.... They have been filming the part where August and Jacob have a fight or where Blackie and his mob are ordered to give Jacob a going over, which ever Jacob looks a mess.

All about Tai aka Rosie

A note from me

I said at the birth of this blog that I didn’t want something big; it is for folk that really loved the book and the future movie. I have not been looking for a large amount of visits and hits to the blog, it has been suffice to see that many readers have returned time and time again, maybe my biggest joy is the fact that according to my stats, my posts where Tai has been mentioned have received more visits than Christoph, Reese and Robert put together, only out done by people trying to get hold of a copy of the WFE script. Although the movie is due to wrap this does not mean that my blog will not continue, there is still lots to talk about and eventually compare when the film is released.

UPDATE: I just received this picture from yesterdays filming at Fox studios... AWESOME

thanks to @PeteCarroll

Kari Johnson Tai’s adopted Mom and owner sent me this delightful account on Tai and some wonderful pictures of her and her family and friends. Enjoy them as much as I have and maybe a donation to Tai’s favourite charity http://www.elephantconservation.org/ would be nice.

Tai with BBF Dixie

About Tai

Tai is cast in the role of Rosie in the film, “Water for Elephants”. She is a 42 year old female Asian elephant. At 8’ 8” feet tall and close to 9,000 pounds Tai really is the biggest star in Hollywood. Her co-stars are never jealous of her looks and talent because of her winning personality and sweet disposition. Who says an over 40, female, plus-size actor with wrinkles and little gray can’t get work?

Bananas, apples, carrots and palm fronds are some of Tai’s favorite foods. Her main diet consists of 150 pounds or so of oat hay with some grass hay mixed in for variety. She enjoys grazing on fresh grass and munching on tree leaves and small limbs. Tai drinks up to 50 gallons of water a day to wash it all down.

Home is Have Trunk Will Travel Ranch in Perris, California where Tai lives with five other elephants and her human family. When she is home she gets baths, exercise, training and relaxing time along with the other elephants. When Tai is on set she gets the same care, along with a lot of human attention from the cast and crew.

Tai travels in a state-of-the-art 48’ long specially built trailer. It has everything she needs to keep her cool and comfortable. The trailer is a good place for her to relax and snack during breaks from filming. She also enjoys stretching her legs and exploring the location.

Ready to Roll

Gary Johnson is Tai’s head trainer. Gary is founder and owner of Have Trunk Will Travel, Inc. along with his wife, Kari. Gary started working with elephants at age 16 and has been living his dream ever since. Tai has been with Gary for 34 years. Joanne Smith is Tai’s assistant trainer. Joanne has loved elephants since she was a toddler. She is a graduate of the Exotic Animal Training and Management Program at Moorpark College. She has been handling and caring for elephants for 21 years, 15 of those years at Have Trunk Will Travel, Inc.

Heading for the Barn

The American Humane Association (AHA) (http://www.americanhumane.org/) monitors animal action in film and television. Anytime Tai is on the film set an AHA representative is present to help ensure her safety and welfare. AHA also observes during pre-training, rest and play time. The director, producers and the entire cast and crew are respectful of Tai’s needs and comfort and a pleasure to work with.

Elephants are the heart and soul of Have Trunk Will Travel and we are honored to live and work with them and to be able to share their talents. Tai is an ambassador for her species, the endangered Asian elephant. We are very proud of the home we have built for our elephants and of the lives they touch through film and public appearances.

The International Elephant Foundation (IEF) (http://www.elephantconservation.org/) is the elephant charity that Tai supports. Gary is a founding board member and Have Trunk Will Travel, Inc. donates to IEF to help elephants worldwide.
