The battle for Los Angeles takes centerfield Sunday in Carson!
For the second time this season, the battle of StubHub Center supremacy is in assembly in Carson, Ca as the Los Angeles Galaxy and Chivas USA go head-to-head on Sunday.
In the first installment of this years MLS’ SuperClasico, the Galaxy dominated the field of play en route to a 3-0 shutout of their cross hall, not-so-rival rivals.
For the Galaxy (4-3-4), they saw their two game win streak come to an end following a 1-1 draw on the road against the Chicago Fire last weekend (now unbeaten in three straight).
The three-game unbeaten streak came after the Galaxy amassed a four-game winless streak. So despite pulling to a draw and only scoring once in the match with Chicago, things are beginning to look up for Manager Bruce Arena‘s club.
Much of the credit for their recent success should go to their leader Landon Donovan.
After going nearly eight months without finding the back of the net, Donovan has scored in consecutive games (three goals total).
For Chivas, after putting together a two-game unbeaten streak (a rarity), the Red-and-White have been shutout in their last two matches (5/28: 0-2 vs. Portland Timbers and 5/31: 0-3 vs. Philadelphia Union).
The Goats (2-7-4) on the year have a comfortable spot in last place in the Western Conference.
Basically things are getting back to normal around Carson, Ca as the Galaxy are putting positive streaks together and Chivas is getting shutout.
And while Chivas is 1-5-1 at StubHub Center, the Galaxy however have been dominant in that very building (4-1-0) (including a 3-0 win on April 6 over Chivas) and a 0-2-4 record away from StubHub Center.
LA has hovered around the playoff picture the majority of the season and entering Sunday’s SuperClasico, the Galaxy will be just two points behind FC Dallas for the fifth playoff spot.
Chivas on the other hand simply needs to figure out how to win first before thinking about the postseason. Otherwise all they are doing is keeping the rest of the conference far away from the cellar.
Sunday will mark the 30th all-time meeting between the two Carson clubs with the Galaxy holding a dominant 19-4-6 record.
The Galaxy have won the last three SuperClasico meetings while outscoring Chivas by a margin of 9-0.
OUCH!
The playoffs will not be won or lost following Sunday’s match but like every other cross town, in-house rival bragging rights until the next meeting will be in full affect.
Kick off from StubHub Center in Carson, Ca is set for 5pm PDT.
