Shelby Miller loses No-Hitter on Final Batter
Atlanta Braves pitcher Shelby Miller made it through 26 batters without giving up a hit, and then lost his no-hit bid on the last batter. Justin Bour broke up Miller’s bid with a line drive up the middle, the first pitch during his at bat. Miller allowed one more hit, as he gave up an infield dingle to Dee Gordon, before getting Martin Prado to pop out to end the game. Miller’s Braves defeated the Marlins 6-0, behind his pitching gem.
When asked about the hit, Miller said,
“He put a good swing on it, I wish it would have finished differently.”
Miller was downright dominant throughout the game, as he struck out four and only walked one batter. However, only having four strikeouts out of the 29 batters he faced, and without the excellent help from his defense, may not have had such a dominant outing. Miller set up the outs, and his defense backed him up for the most part.
Catcher A.J. Pierzynski also commented on Miller’s splendid outing, as he said;
“He wanted to throw it in off the plate, and he threw it right down the middle, Those things happen. It stinks, but Shelby pitched a great game.”
Miller has been having a breakout season, and proving to be the star many made him out to be. His record now stands at 5-1, and he holds an NL best, 1.33 earned run average (ERA). Miller has found his touch in Atlanta so far, and is slowly becoming the Braves true ace.
The Braves acquired Miller from the St. Louis Cardinals over the offseason, when they shipped right fielder Jason Heyward and reliever Jordan Walden for Miller and prospect Tyrell Jenkins.
Miller has proven to be an excellent acquisition to the team, and his outstanding pitching on Sunday was just another example of how dominant the 24 year old can be.
